Historical background of Slavery

Slavery
a) Started in ancient time. People were getting more slaves in the South where large plantations grew cotton and other crops. These plantations needed many workers to take care of the farms. People in the North didn't need slaves because they didn't have as many large farms as the South did.
b) Brought from Northern America
c) Lagos, Portugal, was the first slave market that sells imported African slaves. Southern white skinned people brought and owned black skinned slaves.
d) Yes. Slaves obeyed every command given.
e) In relation to the book, both includes racial discrimination against Blacks, Blacks are wrongly accused in the book and they are ill-treated and must obey the instructions of the whites.
The Civil War
a) Southern United states – Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, west Virginia, South Carolina, Maryland and Delaware.
b) Abraham Lincoln proclaimed war against the southern states.
c) Fought for rights and freedom of black slaves.
d) April 12, 1861 – April 9, 1865
e) Robert E. Lee surrendered his Army of Northern Virginia on April 9, 1865, at the McLean House in the village of Appomattox Court House.
f) In relation to the book, Atticus, a white fought for the rights of Tom Robinson. Atticus did not discriminate Tom Robinson but helped him.
Jim Crow’s Laws
a) Song name, not a person
b) Local and State laws that were used in America during 1876 to 1965. Separated the white from the blacks.
c) Whites were given advantages in education, work, etc while Blacks were unfairly treated and were very unhappy.
d) Yes. In relation to the book, Tom Robinson was accused by a white for raping and Tom Robinson lost the case although it was clear that he was wrongly accused.

  1. Hey Jie Han , I think that it is really good that you have put the points of each of the sub sections in point form , this makes it easier to read . However , in your civil war section , I think you failed to mention that some of the states were seceded from the Southern states before the war started .
